Blog Rush

September 17th, 2007 Josh

If you have finished reading to the bottom of any posts recently (which I hope you all do!) then you’ll notice a new feature here at Make College Better.

I’ve added a widget called Blog Rush to my blog (on the bottom of the left sidebar) that offers related links to other posts on the blogosphere.  I hope this will be a way you can find more content that you’ll enjoy on other writers’ blogs.

If you’re a blogger and would like to add blog rush to your blog, it can be a great way to expose new people to your content.  Just click any of the links in this post!

The Moleskine Experiment

September 14th, 2007 Josh

I’ve been reading a lot recently about the Moleskine line of notebooks. Known for their quality and their sleek design, these notebooks are sweeping the nation.

Wanting to see what all the hype was about, I’ve decided to run a little experiment. I have recently purchased three Moleskine notebooks. The project will run like this, I am going to carry a Moleskine wherever I go and use it in as many ways as possible. Then, after each week or so I will report back to my lovely readers here on how useful the Moleskine is.

Moleskine’s have a supposedly ‘legendary’ history, which is described on a little insert that comes with every notebook Moleskine sells: Read the rest of this entry »

Ditch Adobe Reader, Foxit does it faster.

August 22nd, 2007 Josh

Does Adobe Reader take too long to load on your computer? Do things freeze whenever you open a PDF file? You are not alone, read on…

With school upon us, a major thing on my mind is the massive amount of reading I have to do. Reading is alright, but why make it take any longer than it already does. Do your profs email and post tons of PDF file articles for you to read? Because mine do. Before this year’s reading load hits, I decided to ditch adobe reader and switch to the lighter, faster Foxit Reader 2.0.

Better Facebook: The Ultimate Guide to using Greasemonkey with Facebook

August 18th, 2007 Josh

Facebook can suck your productivity into a black hole. Don’t you wish you could have some of that time back, while still being able to stay on top of everything facebook offers? With the Greasemonkey Firefox Extension, this is possible. This extension allows you to install scripts that improve your browsing experience.

The scripts I’ve listed and reviewed below will help you save time doing repetitive facebook tasks, like logging in and loading images. While there have been other ‘facebook with greasemonkey’ posts in the past, many scripts have been updated and new ones released. That is why I feel this post is necessary. Weekend Reading: Week #1

August 17th, 2007 Josh

This is the first installment of a series of posts entitled Weekend Reading. A collection of some of the best articles from the week in news, the blogosphere, wikipedia articles, and more. This should give you something to do in the approximately three and a half hours on Saturday between waking up hungover from Friday and beginning to pre-game for Saturday night.

These articles have been hand selected, and already thoroughly enjoyed, by myself. I hope you will like them too. Leave your own favorite reading from this week in the comments,

Reviewing Standards

August 15th, 2007 Josh

Here at MCB I plan to do some reviews of movies, music, books, and TV in order to let you know what new entertainment is out there that will make your college experience more enjoyable. But before I do that, I decided I need some rating system to keep track of things. All the cool review sites are doing it, so I should to.

Anyways, it is pretty simple, but here it is:

Write more letters to your friends

August 15th, 2007 Josh

Recently, I’ve begun writing snail mail letters to my friends who have gone off to different colleges. It is a great way to stay in touch, it will make your friend feel good, and perhaps the best reason to write more letters is it is exciting to get a real letter back in reply. Plus, at the end of this post I have a way to send those letters free!

So what to write about? Let your friends know what you’ve been up to. Tell them the craziest thing that has happened to you in the last week, some gossip you heard, or just how your classes are going.

What you write maybe not even be as important as sending the letter itself. Just the act of writing and sending a letter will let your friend know that you were thinking of them and value their friendship. This is important, because it can be tough to maintain good relationships across great distances. But, a little bit of effort can fix whatever strains the distance puts on your friendships!
