Better Facebook: The Ultimate Guide to using Greasemonkey with Facebook
Facebook can suck your productivity into a black hole. Don’t you wish you could have some of that time back, while still being able to stay on top of everything facebook offers? With the Greasemonkey Firefox Extension, this is possible. This extension allows you to install scripts that improve your browsing experience.
The scripts I’ve listed and reviewed below will help you save time doing repetitive facebook tasks, like logging in and loading images. While there have been other ‘facebook with greasemonkey’ posts in the past, many scripts have been updated and new ones released. That is why I feel this post is necessary.
- First, get on the latest edition of firefox.
- Secondly, install the Greasemonkey Extension.
- Visit userscripts.org to install scripts (the best ones for facebook are below). Just click ‘Install this script’ on the right of each page.
And without further ado, the scripts:
- Facebook Autologin v2 will keep you logged in, even when you have exited your browser. This will prevent you from needing to re-enter your user name and password every single time you click a link in an email from facebook.
- InYoFacebookToo is my favorite of all the scripts. When you roll over any kind of image - be it on a wall post, in a gallery, or in search results - the page will have an automatic pop up of that image. Yes, that even means you can even see a larger profile picture from people in search results that you aren’t even friends with, you creepy stalker.
- Facebook Age Checker is great when you’re tired of doing math from a long day in Calc. It will neatly display a person’s age next to their birthday, so you don’t have to figure it out yourself.
While there are many more out there, those three are the essentials. Hey, maybe you’d be into a script that makes facebook look antiquated, but maybe not. I didn’t want to burden your eyes and distract from the best, so I left it at 3.
Have another favorite script? Leave it in the comments and I can add it.
